Can you promise me a trip to maggie Moo’s when I come? We had one in DC and I miss it so much. It was very near and dear to my heart.
Wait, were you talking about something besides ice cream? All I saw was Maggie Moo’s Maggie MOo’s Maggie Moo’s, ice cream, toppings, Maggie Moo’s Maggie Moo’s, Annie looks cute today, ice cream, ice cream, Maggie Moo’s.
But you’re right on with the pop culture thing.
I love chocolate icecream with oreos and strawberries on top…people look at me funny when I make that request…but then again…I always get funny looks.
But, I love pop culture too…music, movies, tv, books, magazines, celebrities. However, I have a line that I draw for myself. NEVER anything sacrilegious and do not tolerate the Lord’s name being taken in vain. I have thrown out books that use it repeatedly, I have shut off movies that I spent money on after the first 20 minutes. It has not been easy, and it is a recent conviction I’ve had. It is aggravating, especially if the story line is good…but, to me…that is the worst word in language and it is not tolerated in my home or mind!
Great job Sarah and Annie!
Love that Annie. I agree, I need to control what I put in my head, but I don’t go crazy with restrictions either. Thinking before I read, watch, listen, etc. is a challenge, but a good one. Oh and sprinkles must always accompany ice cream (and cookies and cupcakes….)
I have found that because of my overactive imagination I have to be incredibly careful with what I fill my mind with. Aspects of pop culture, like horror films or suspense novels are things I cannot read. I also can’t bring myself to read the Twilight series because of the literary symbolism of it (I am such a dork). I cannot get past what it represents. I really really enjoy romance movies but I have to be careful about what I see because I am so sensitive. I agree with Rachel, one of the things that makes me cringe is when my King’s name is used in vain. So that is something I think about too.
I have realized at times with some of my friends I have no clue what they are talking about. Luckily for me they are understanding and fill me in, which creates interesting conversations because then they get to share what their “guilty” pleasure is. Sometimes I follow up and watch what they recommend if I feel like my heart can handle it. Other times I choose to stick with the short version from friends who watch every episode.
Oh and my favorite ice cream is Imagine Whirled Peace by Ben and Jerry’s. But if I go to “an ice cream parlor”
I get sweet cream ice cream, strawberries and graham cracker crumbs. Or in Cold Stone lingo Strawberry Cheesecake yum yum yum!
This is so true about being careful what we watch or read, and it brings to mind a scripture I’d like to share that the Lord has been revealing to me. Matthew 12:34-35 says: You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. (NIV) We need to be soaking up the Word everyday so that we can display it to those who are around us and those who are lost. It’s okay to have things in our lives like ice cream and a good book now and again, but don’t let it be the main focus in your life. We so desperately need to be seeking Him now more than ever!!! Thanks so much Sarah and Annie what a great message!
Encouraging NOT Discouraging,
Jess
Annie,
My favorite ice cream: chocolate chip. Only one store brand will do: Breyer’s. I prefer it unadulterated. Hand me a spoon.
Hugz, Lucy
i go to maggiemoo’s ice cream place sometimes. I think there ice cream is awesome
I love ice cream. Any kind except straight chocolate.
In this world, not of it. We’re studying Daniel in Sunday school using Beth Moore’s study guide so this is fresh on my mind. We have to have a relationship and be in the word in order to hear Him clearly. We have to have spiritual training in order to stand in the world. We all grow at different rates and the Lord reveals to us the things He wants us to know. Everyone is not at the same point in their walk. Mostly I’ve learned to extend grace to others.
