Express Yourself

what makes you tick?

We would be thrilled at the chance to get to know YOU and what makes you tick! This is the place where you can do just that. You will notice at the bottom of each {inspirational entry} there is a short, interesting description of the writer — we call it the “tagline.” Here is the place to put your tagline! Give us a 10-20 word description of who you are, what you love, what you don’t love or anything that tells us about you. Make it fun and interesting or make it deep and thoughtful — that is up to you. Also, you can include your name — or not — you decide.

Example: {your name — or not} is a sucker for reality t.v., loves rocky road ice cream, and is just trying to figure out life.

My name is Michelle, 19 years old, I Love Jesus, my family, my best friend, looking at the stars, and Moosetracks Ice cream!

Michelle June 29, 2010 at 8:46 pm

I’ll add more…I’m new in my walk with Jesus. My best friend really showed me what it means to love God and to be loved by Him. I recently got out of an extremely bad situation and relationship where I completely lost who I was. I wanted to give up and end my life. I prayed to God every night for a miracle and then God gave me my best friend. Through her, He saved me and kept me going. I’m now working on healing and getting my life back. Lots of changes have been made in my heart and life. I have new eyes since being saved and discovering the beautiful hands of Jesus being wrapped around me. Currently I am a theatre major at a college in the town I’m from but I no longer feel that it is my calling. I feel like God is pulling me towards leading worship, talking to girls in situations similar to my past, and to share the love of Jesus and God’s word all over the country and world. I’m stuck in this town full of heart ache, baggage, and negativity and it’s time for me to leave. It’s hard but I don’t feel that God wants me here anymore.

I am looking for a devotion book that my mother and I would both enjoy. We are looking to do it once a week as we live about 45 min away from each other. Any ideas? Also we would like to find something that both our husbands would enjoy. we are all outdoorsy type of people. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Michelle June 30, 2010 at 9:00 pm

Nicole,
Thank you so much :) I will definitely keep that in mind as I continue on my journey of trying to heal and figure out where God is taking me.

Danielle July 1, 2010 at 2:54 pm

So I have been thinking a lot. Right now I am doing Beth Moore’s bible study, Updated Version of ” A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place” and just learned of free will offerings. At first I was sad, because I wasn’t aware of what mine were. But with the help of the woman in the bible study group, I am well aware, thanks be to God that my gifts are encouragement, and creativity. Right now I am a graphic designer for a print shop. But somewhere along the line I want to use my gift of encouragement with my design skills for God’s will. I have always wanted to go into publication for a career, preferably magazines. Or even design web based pdfs would be fun. My husband(who is always so encouraging to me) suggested that maybe one day I would create a woman’s Christian magazine. I just don’t think there are enough of them out there, do you girls agree? But who knows? Well God does. And then today I was struck with a few ideas. What if I started a newsletter, or designed a article. Full color for the women in my community to read such at church, or around the area I live in. Or even sent a pdf to friends and family in email. I wonder if it would fly. Of course I would put my time, and money into it. Just to give! To use the gifts God has blessed me with. Maybe I could find another girl about my age to help me write. These are all ideas. And through God, I know I can do anything. I guess what I’m asking is what do you girls think? I would love your opinions. I’m 24, and a graphic designer with a desire to honor God, and grow in Christ.

brittany July 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm

i am hopeless, god has forgotten /or doesnt care about my well being my prayers go unanwsered, the more faith i try to have the more bad news i get, ready to give up

JLS July 1, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Danielle,
I think that is a wonderful idea. I work in sales, and i agree there isn’t enough stuff out there for our aged people. I’m 26, newly married and there are alot of things i would love to do. If you need any help or ideas, or just someone to toss some things off, please let me know! I am here!

Danielle July 1, 2010 at 3:24 pm

JLS,

Thank you so much for the quick response. It truly means so much to me! It truly touched my hear to get positive feedback on the topic, or my idea! I am praying to God for guidance about the whole matter, and will be asking some women at church what they think about it. But I truly have a good feeling about it, and I know God will show me the way! I’m sure more ideas will pop up along the way, and I will certainly share them here. And who knows in email maybe. We have some things in common because I too am newly married. Only been 3 months for us. ^_^ Thank you again for your encouragement! I am glad to have found my way here. And look forward to sharing, and encouragement here!

Danielle July 1, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Brittany,

Please do not give up! God does not think you are hopeless, NOR would he ever forget about you! That is what the devil would want you to think. I don’t know what is going on in your life, but God has a way of turning things around for the good. The Christian life is never easy, but through it we will find peace, and comfort in a loving God! I have had my share of rough times in my life. In fact, I am going to through another difficult time too. But I am able to be positive and have hope knowing that I will be protected, and guided by God! And in the process I learn. Please do not give up Hope! I will pray for you!

JLS July 1, 2010 at 4:36 pm

I know i have said this already, but I just recently got married. One of my friends and her husband have had some problems and they are really trying to work on their relationship. I decided to ask her if her and her husband would join me and mine for a weekly bible study/devotion and just eat and have fellowship as well. I have know idea what book or anything that would even go with something we could relate too. We are in our middle and later 20’s, Can anyone help me? I would really love the feedback. I feel a very strong pull at this, but scared i’m going to get rocked by the devil. A little help in topics or books would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Danielle July 1, 2010 at 5:40 pm

JLS,

Are you looking for a bible study book, or just any Christian book to read, and learn? There were a few books that my husband and I got for pre-marital counseling that may help. I can’t think of the titles on the top of my head right now though (I’ll look when I get home). One devotional book I definitely recommend for them as a couple it is called “Night Light” by James Dobson and Shirley Dobson. Every night the devotion requires discussion between husband and wife by giving questions. My husband and I love it. I’ll look into other resources for you! I will pray as well!

JLS July 1, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Sorry didn’t explain very well. Yes I’m kinda looking for a bible study book for couples. Not for 2 people but small group. I mean we will start just the 4 of us. I thought maybe something fun and light hearted would be good since they have had some problems and don’t want to get too deep into marriage. I am hoping that we can just grow and eventually be able to talk about deep things and move onto a bigger and more emotional bible study book for couples. Does that help? I will look into that book for me and my husband though. Sounds good! Again any help would be great!

Bethany July 1, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Danielle,
I thinks it’s a great idea!! Your write, there aren’t enough Christian magazines and I think that’s awesome that you want to put your talent to good use, spreading the good news!
I encourage you to follow your passion!!! Get creative and have fun!!!

God Bless,
Bethany

JLS,
I HIGHLY recommend The Five Love Languages. It will revolutionize any relationship-married or dating. There are bunches of resources around this book so you should be able to find something to study with a small group.

Bethany,

Thank you so much for the encouragement, and affirmation that it is a good idea. I think I may have Monday off paid, so I think I may play with some ideas. I can’t wait to talk to some of the women at church for encouragement as well. Please pray for me that God guides me to use my gifts as He pleases!

JLA July 12, 2010 at 9:31 am

Good morning! God is stretching me..growing me. It’s exciting and a little scary. Would ask for prayers as I know the devil likes to steal and distract me from our Lord God thru challenging times. Am thankful for your website and look forward to encouraging others and receiving it as well. God Bless!!

Elizabeth July 12, 2010 at 11:49 am

I’ve been struggling a lot in my relationship with God lately and I feel kind of overwhelmed by my own weakness and inability to make good choices. I know the things I should be doing but I fail to do them almost every day. I want to make God happy but I think instead I just break His heart :’(

Bethany July 12, 2010 at 12:41 pm

JLA and Elizabeth,

I’m going to tell you right now that no matter what, God loves you and forgives!!!!!!!! And I’m telling you that first because we often forget that. We get upset because God challenges us or the devil pursues us and we stumble and fall and get down on ourselves that we have failed. But that is impossible if we keep God in our sights! He won’t let us fail! We have to pick ourselves up off the ground and dust ourselves off and he will light the way for us!
God has been stretching me as well and it’s not always very comfortable and I’m often reminded of short comings but that is when I pour my heart out to God and tell him what I’m feeling. He wants to know and he wants us to share that with him. He wants us to give it up to him and let him take care of it! We will stumble, we’re human and it’s bound to happen but that great thing is is that he is always there to pick us up and he loves us no matter what! The one who knows you best, loves you most!! Remember that!!
God is happiest when he knows that we love him and are pursuing him!! Doesn’t matter if we stumble, he’s still exstatic, that we are seeking after him! So I would encourage you Elizabeth to keep seeking and praying!! And JLA, keep your focus!!
I’ll be praying for you both!! Hope you have a wonderful day!!
With Love,
Bethany

Bethany July 12, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Here’s a Devotional I read just yesterday I’d like to share that might help.

I trust God, but I’m wiped Out!
Rick Warren

I believed, so I said, ‘I am completely ruined!’ Psalm 116:10 (NCV)
“Circumstances cannot change the character of God. God’s grace is still in full force; he is still for you.”
Did you know that admitting your hopelessness to God can be a statement of faith? Trusting God but feeling despair at the same time, David wrote, “I believed, so I said, ‘I am completely ruined!’” (Psalm 116:10, NCV)
This sounds like a contradiction: I trust God, but I’m wiped out! David’s frankness actually reveals deep faith: First, he believed in God. Second, he believed God would listen to his prayer. Third, he believed God would let him say what he felt and still love him.
Focus on who God is—his unchanging nature. Regardless of circumstances and how you feel, hang on to God’s unchanging character. Remind yourself what you know to be eternally true about God: He is good, he loves me, he is with me, he knows what I’m going through, he cares, and he has a good plan for my life. Raymond Edman said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.”
When Job’s life fell apart, and God was silent, Job still found reasons to praise God:

That he is good and loving. (Job 10:12)
That he is all-powerful. (Job 42:2; 37:5, 23)
That he notices every detail of my life. (Job 23:10; 31:4)
That he is in control. (Job 34:13)
That he has a plan for my life. (Job 23:14)
That he will save me. (Job 19:25)
Trust God to keep his promises. During times of spiritual dryness you must patiently rely on the promises of God, not your emotions, and realize that he is taking you to a deeper level of maturity. A friendship based on emotion is shallow indeed.
So don’t be troubled by trouble. Circumstances cannot change the character of God. God’s grace is still in full force; he is still for you, even when you don’t feel it. In the absence of confirming circumstances, Job held on to God’s Word. He said, “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.” (Job 23:12, NIV)
This trust in God’s Word caused Job to remain faithful even though nothing made sense. His faith was strong in the midst of pain: “God may kill me, but still I will trust him.” (Job 13:15, CEV)

Hope this helps and relieves some of that worry you are holding on to!!!
With Love,
Bethany

Dana July 12, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Hello everyone.
I must admit – God works in mysterious and amazing ways. My husband and I moved to a rural town (and, by rural, I mean less than 400 people… with no grocery store…) last year. Although I love my new surroundings and the friends we’ve made, I have yet to find a good group of Christian women with whom I can hang out, pray with, and share. I’ve been praying for them… but well, haven’t found my niche.
Then, I stumbled across this website. I am thankful that God is using the internet to connect women across the states, and perhaps even the world. I believe God does answer prayer, especially in ways that we do not expect.
I look forward to discussing with y’all, reading scripture with y’all, praying for y’all and trusting God together.
Thanks for sharing! :0)

Danielle July 12, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Hello Dana, Nice to meet you!
I absolutely love this site! It provides the greatest insight, and faith in God! I love the mother site, Proverbs31 too! I pray that you will be able to find a great church in your new home town!

I’m 22 (SWNK) and I LOVE the Lord! God gives me what I need everyday and I am thankful for that! :D

Lauren July 13, 2010 at 2:35 pm

This is exactly what I needed to read today! I have struggled with having these feelings for so long and it is just amazing to know that others know EXACTLY how it is to fell that way and even more amazing that God would lay this devotional out for me to read and be comforted by! God is amazing and I lone Him sooo much! There is nothing wrong with me! God has a plan for me and I just need to be patient and let Him reveal to me on His time what that plan is!

Tobi July 14, 2010 at 12:10 am

Hey Everyone~
I have been following Proverbs31 on Facebook for a couple months now and I finally went and checked out the actual website. I have really enjoyed the site thus far and I am blessed to see the encouragement that is happening in this section specifically.
Recently my pastor had us take this test to determine what our spiritual gifts are.. and one of mine ended up being shepherding, and another is encouragement and I got to thinking and praying about what I could do or what I am doing to use my gifts. Anyway, to make a long story not so short, :) I really feel that God is putting it on my heart to start a website dedicated to christian women. I really enjoy reading quite a few blogs by christian friends and thought it would be great if they could all be accessed from one place, and maybe have my sisters in Christ submit different articles/devotions for me to post as well.
I would love to have any input that all of would like to share, being that you are a group of christian women, :) But more then anything I would love prayer that I this site would be what God wants it to be. Thanks, God Bless. :)

Bynee July 14, 2010 at 2:27 pm

I’m Bynee! I’m a 20 year old college girl that loves to two-step, and be with my friends, dog, and family, and is searching for that something in life that will make me whole again.

Kelsey July 14, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Bynee-
I’m also 20, in college, and searching! I definitely don’t have it all figured out, but I know that the times I feel most loved and at peace are the times I bury my heart in Christ. He takes care of me like no one else!

I’m praying for you!

Hello Tobi,

I think your idea is wonderful, and would very much love to see anything you may do! I recently posted something earlier about me doing a newsletter, which could involve into a Christian magazine. Since my gifts are being creative (I’m a graphic designer), and encouragement! God is amazing, and I’m sure He will see us through! I encourage you to use your gifts for the glory of God!

Tobi July 17, 2010 at 12:45 am

Danielle and JLS.. thank you soooo much for the encouragement and I will definitely post a link when it is up and running. I am also going to do a blog section kinda like this so we can have some interaction as well. Have a blessed weekend everyone! :)

Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart! Psalm 37:8

Kelsey Bobbi July 17, 2010 at 4:26 am

Hey.
My name is Kelsey. I’m a twenty year old artist looking for meaning in my life.
Just in the last couple years my life has done several flip-flops both for good and bad.
When I was in 7th grade I started down a road of cutting myself to make pain and depression go away for a time. Every day would give me a reason to cut.
When I graduated high school I opened my heart to people I knew would be there for me, and got help. Just last year my mentor and I came to my parents and told them what I have been going through for so many years, and I was able to see a therapist.
For a while I was doing alright, but then I relapsed… this time I took it further and tried to take my life.
Thankfully God saved me…. I know he has something for me…
As I’m on this road of recovering I’ve met God in several ways.
He’s blessed me with beautiful people in my life (one in particular-my mentor) who have helped me along the way. Through all of this He’s given me a passion to help young 7th and 8th grade girls through the worst years to come.

Michelle July 17, 2010 at 9:56 am

Kelsey Bobbi-
I can relate to your story very closely. I’m 19 and I also wanted to take my life while I was in an emotionally abusive relationship. It was ruining me and I had no idea who I was anymore, I was scared, so depressed, and so far away from God. I had nothing to live for anymore. I felt so worthless. Then by God’s grace He gave me a best friend who was like my angel. She helped me get out of it and start to heal. If God wouldn’t have put her in my life when He did, I would not be alive right now. I’m now working on healing and trying so hard not to let the enemy hurt me. You need to read the book “Life, In Spite of Me” by Kristen Jane Anderson. It is her AMAZING story about the failed attempt to take her life only by the grace of God and how she is using her story to help girls. I read it in 4 hours the other night and would highly recommend it. I found it amazon, ordered it, and it came 2 days later!! God too has laid on my heart to want to help young girls going through depression and wanting to end their life. I want to tell them that they have an AWESOME God who loves them and has a purpose for their life!!!! :) Here is a verse that has been shared with me more than once that I love and I want to share with you:

He reached down from heaven and rescued me;
he drew me out of deep waters.
He led me to a place of safety;
he rescued me because he delights in me.
-Psalm 18: 16, 19

:) –Michelle

Thanks for sharing your story!! It is amazing to see how God works and how he has empowered both of you!! You are amazing ladies. Keep seeking and sharing!!! God has an awesome plan for you both!

Michelle July 17, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Sarah and Bethany,

Thank you for the encouragement! I’m currently a theatre major in college but I keep feeling the pull from God on my heart to help girls and to share my story. I’m starting to think maybe theatre isn’t what He wants me to do anymore. I keep praying for God to show me where He wants me to go. I just feel so strongly that helping girls struggling with depression is such a huge issue and I want to help them before it’s too late. It could’ve been too late for me had God not blessed me with a best friend who shared God’s love with me. And before she came into my life when I was struggling every day and just wanting it to end, He somehow kept me going. By His grace He did not let me end my life. He has a plan and purpose for me. :)
